Where healing begins and your life and relationships can begin to thrive again.
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2006 with a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. I currently hold a Marriage and Family Therapy License in both Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. I am also a VA Board-approved supervisor for resident therapists, and I have recently been appointed to the Virginia Board of Counseling. I am also a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a clinical member of the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
My residency included working at Fort Belvoir’s Family Life Center, where I gained valuable experience with military couples, families, and individuals dealing with multi-layered issues and trauma. I also worked as a home-based counselor helping children, adolescents, and their families resolve conflict. I completed my professional residency at Mount Vernon Family Therapy Associates, working with a group of certified psychologists and therapists in a private practice, where I became the lead couples therapist.
I have advanced training in EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples), which research has shown to be effective about 80% of the time in improving the bond in couples. I am also trained in EFIT (Emotion Focused Individual Therapy), Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Christian Faith-based Counseling.
The first step is to build a trusting and non-judgmental relationship where you will feel safe to work on yourself and your relationships. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy where I bring my guidance and training into treatment, and you bring your knowledge of yourself and your needs, and we work together to help you reach your goals. I am compassionate and understand how difficult it is to be transparent and explore painful thoughts and feelings. It doesn’t always have to be so serious, though! Humor, laughter, authenticity, connection, and focusing on strengths and positive aspects of your life are also ways to heal.
I treat couples, individuals, and families using a tailored approach to fit your needs, incorporating different therapies to help you reach your goals. With couples, I use Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) to strengthen your connection, repair your relationship, and begin a new cycle of interaction that feels connected and emotionally safe.
